What’s the difference between a clip and a track?
Updated this week

In audio and video editing, a clip and a track refer to different elements within the editing process, each with its own purpose:

Clip: A clip is a segment or snippet of audio or video that is part of a larger project. Clips are usually short pieces that can be moved, trimmed, split, or edited individually. Clips are often placed onto tracks within the editing software to build a cohesive project.

Track: A track is a horizontal layer in the timeline that holds one or multiple clips. Tracks can organize different types of media (e.g., separate tracks for dialogue, music, sound effects) and are designed to help keep content organized, allowing for control over how different clips interact or are layered in the final mix.

In short, a clip is an individual piece of content, while a track is a layer where clips are placed and organized to create a full project.
